Hidden software that records every keystroke is in HP laptops has been found by a security researcher in nearly 500 models. This would allow a hacker to know everything the laptop uses types. The  FCC voted in favor of repealing Obama  era rules regarding net neutrality. It will likely change how customers are billed for services, costs for some parts of your monthly service like Netflix may increase, it may negatively effect upstart companies. It will be a few months before the change goes into effect.  A number of tech giants opposed the changes and are unhappy the vote passed. The Digital POWRR team invites applications for the second of five 2-day institutes, to be held on April 28-29, 2018 in Warm Springs, OR at the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort and Spa, in conjunction with the Northwest Archivists 2018 Annual Meeting. The institute is free to attend (no registration fee) and scholarships are available to help defray travel expenses. An ideal candidate for a POWRR institute may be someone who fits some of these descriptions: ·Someone who works in a “boots on the ground” role (this could be any range of positions in the cultural heritage sector, but the idea is that your primary role is not one as an administrator) ·Someone who has been exposed to basic digital preservation concepts, but who has struggled with moving from theory to practice ·Someone who represents or serves historically underrepresented populations ·Someone who is comfortable with basic technology, (navigating a basic co…
