NY city IDs

NY City will not delete its ID data for immigrants, people in homeless shelters, domestic abuse victims and transgender people. The ID database includes personal data on 988,066 people. It allows people to get into schools, museums, and to enable people to report crimes. It does not ask about immigrant status, but you must use a valid passport or consular id with a city utility bill with a city address to get the ID. A judge ruled that the city should not destroy the data on Dec. 31st as it was scheduled to be destroyed by city law. Some fear it may be used in an immigrant database by the Trump administration.  Read more about it here http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/21/nyregion/new-york-city-should-keep-id-data-for-now-judge-rules.html?ref=topics&_r=0
